Thank you for your interest in the current serving opportunities available at Community Church!
**Please note that all volunteers wishing to serve in our security or youth ministries will be required to fill out an application and a background check will be performed. To access to these applications, click on security or youth, or you may pick one up at the Vineyard table during Connections. While your application is being processed, you may observe other volunteers currently performing the duties you are interested in and also receive training .
If you would like to help in our children's/youth ministries we have openings for the following positions:
NURSERY: Our nursery is for newborns through 2 years of age. We prefer to have 4 to 5 adults for every service and currently have openings in each of our services; 9am, 11am and Wednesday evenings. Volunteers are scheduled according to their desired frequency and availability. We ask our nursery volunteers to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to service so that parents may drop off their babies before service begins. The only qualification required for this position is that you enjoy providing love and care for the babies in attendance! We would love to double the volunteer base for our nursery ministry!
TLC: "Turning Lambs to Christ" is our class for 3 to 5 year olds. We are in special need right now for coaches for the 2nd Sunday of the month (2nd service) and for helpers for the 4th Wednesday night of the month. Our TLC coaches and helpers currently serve once a month. However, as our volunteer base increases, serving time will become less frequent. TLC is offered during all of our services; 9am, 11am, and Wednesday evenings. We will provide training/equipping for the coaching position if you would prefer, however, it is not mandatory.
The following is a more in-depth description of these ministry positions:
Coaches are asked to arrive to TLC no later than 15 minutes prior to the service time you volunteered for so that you can prepare yourself for the day's lesson. Your lessons will be given to you PRIOR to your Sunday/Wednesday and supplies will be laid out for you before you arrive. Each lesson has suggested “words" for you to follow and each is well planned and organized. You will be leading the children in their lesson activities which may include: singing, crafting, dancing, storytelling, music, drama, etc. You DO NOT have to invent or "come-up with" ideas or plans of your own. The Lead Coach for TLC has already prepared these things for you and all you have to do is lead these wonderful children, pray for them, share God's love, and HAVE FUN! Any questions or concerns should be directed to TLC Lead Coach – Terri Rogers. There is one teacher needed per service (or an adult paired with a youth).
Helpers are asked to arrive to TLC approximately 15 minutes prior to the service time you volunteered for and will help the the coach in any support fashion. This does not require teaching or preparation of lessons plans. We prefer to have 2 helpers per service. Youth helpers must be in at least 6th grade and must be paired with adult.
ODYSSEY: Ages 6 to 11
The following positions are available for our 9am, 11am, and Wednesday evening services:
Registration Desk - These volunteers will need to arrive to the appropriate ministry area 20 minutes prior to class time. They are responsible for greeting children/parents, helping them register, conveying any needed information (oral or written), and providing a "first impression" for new visitors. Once class begins, the volunteers may leave and join the service upstairs. This position serves once a month and two volunteers are needed per service. (Adults preferred, 9th grade & up okay if needed.)
Activity Station Coordinator - These volunteers should arrive 30 minutes prior to class time and set up the activity/game station that will enhance the day's lesson. It may require moving or arranging tables, putting out materials (i.e., paints, papers, crayons, pencils, balls, etc.), or "marking" the game areas appropriately. Activities vary from week to week and the volunteer will receive the needed "supply" list and instructions PRIOR to their Sunday. We are open to making this a rotational position or assigning a single volunteer to this position. These volunteers may join service upstairs once the classroom has been set up. No interaction with the children is necessary. (Adult preferred, 11th grade & up okay if needed)
Team Time/ Small Group Leaders - These volunteers should arrive 15-20 minutes early to receive "detailed" instruction from the Lead coach or Large Group Teacher for the day and to prepare the Team Time area for lesson. Team Time leaders will receive their lesson plans prior to their volunteer Sunday. This should give ample time to prepare and look over the lesson. All supplies will be prepared for you by the Administrator before you arrive to class. Please communicate any question or concerns to the day's Large Group Teacher or Lead Coach. Team Time leaders will be leading children in "life-application" lesson that stem from the Large Group lesson that day. It is a "hands-on" continuation of the day's Large Group lesson/activity. This is a LEADING position meaning there is direct interaction with children. This is also the time to work on building relationship among the children. Your influence in this position should be used to exemplify Christ at every occasion. This position requires one person and is rotational (once a month) or adaptable to once a Sunday according to the Spiritual Gifting/Passion of the volunteer. (Adult preferred, 9th grade & up okay if needed)
Team Time/Small Group Helpers - These volunteers support the Team Time Leader according to the needs of the day's lesson. This is a "direct" contact position and is "hands-on" with the children. Helpers need to arrive to class 15-20 minutes early and report to the Team Time Leader for instructions concerning the day's lesson/activities. This position currently rotates once a month and will become less frequent as more people volunteer. Frequency can also be adapted to serve the Spiritual Giftedness/Passion of the volunteers. Two to three helpers are needed per service. (Adults preferred, 6th grade & up okay if paired with Adult)
Large Group Leaders - These volunteers will need to arrive 20 - 30 minutes prior to the arrival of the children to "set-up" and prepare the large group area for the day's lesson/activities. This is a LEADING position. It requires direct, “hands-on” contact/communication with the children. All lessons are prepared for you and easy to teach. The lessons are easy to follow and the wording may be used exactly as it appears in the lesson. All supplies are prepared and waiting on you when you arrive to the room.
Pre-reading your lesson/activities is encouraged in order to properly understand and be able to teach the “Key Concept” for the lesson. It will also give you foresight for the Team Time lesson as well. Large Group Leaders may direct their concerns and questions to Odyssey’s Lead Coach – Amy Fernung. Large Group Leaders are also responsible for assisting Team Time Leaders with questions or concerns about their activities or lessons as well. This position can be rotational based on the desires and Spiritual Giftedness of the volunteer. This position currently rotates once a month among Large Group Teachers (per Sunday – both Services) and requires one adult volunteer.
Wednesday Night Bible Study 7 PM – Voyage: Wednesday night Kid’s Bible study has need of helping volunteers. These volunteers should arrive 15 minutes prior to the start of class to receive instruction from the Lead Coach, Jennifer Andrus. This is a “hands-on” direct contact with children position. It does not require teaching, but serving the children as needed such as: help writing, reading, coloring, or maybe a better understanding of the activity at hand. It is a great opportunity to share Jesus and open dialog about serving Him with the children. This position currently serves once a month but will become less frequent as more volunteers step forward.
We strongly encourage men to volunteer within our youth positions. This creates a great opportunity for husbands and wives to serve together as well as our Home Connections groups. For more information, contact Terry Sullivan or Dana Melton.
Security: Our security ministry is for men only (and youth age 14 and older if teamed with an adult). Our security volunteers serve in teams of two and currently serve on a rotational basis. Our desire is to have enough men step forward so that we may schedule everyone once every two months. Men, if your wife serves in the nursery or another youth ministry, we can schedule you to serve security at the same time so that you can attend the other service together. As a security volunteer, your duties include walking the grounds during service to make sure that the youth are in their classrooms and that no one is wandering the halls or grounds, to lock and unlock doors at specified times, and to maintain contact, through two-way radios and visits, with the classroom teachers so that you are available for assistance if needed. For more information about this ministry, please contact Terry Sullivan or Billy Key. You may access the required application by clicking here, or you may pick one up at the Vineyard table during Connections.
Information Desk: We are currently looking for people interested in manning the Information Desk for our 11am service. Materials for the Information Desk will have already been layed out from our 9am service. This position requires you to arrive 10-15 minutes prior to service and once again after service for about 10 minutes. Simply provide a smiling face and a willingness to answer questions or find someone who can! Volunteers for this position serve on a rotating basis, currently once every 7-8 weeks.
